The Secret Life of Pets 2 Review- Sits, Stays, and is Overall a Good Boy!

One of the surprise hits of 2016 was Illumination's sixth film "The Secret Life of Pets". Filled with a great concept of what are the pets doing when the owners are not home. In the first film we as the audience were able to see an all-star cast tackle a fun adventure and take on what happens with dogs become lost. In the sequel to hilarious film, we are able to see the gang return and tackle new adventures. The gang including old faces such as Max, this time played my comedian Patton Oswalt, after Illumination dropped comedian Louis C.K. Duke played by Eric Stonestreet, Snowball portrayed by Kevin Hart, and even Gidget voiced by Jenny Slate. The sequel allows to even meet some new faces such as Rooster voiced by Harrison Ford, in his first animated role, and Daisy played by Tiffany Haddish. Unlike the first film which tackled a straight story-line, we are given three separate story lines that eventually all link up together towards the climax of the film. The first being with Max, as he tackles new issues with his owner and her new husband and child, as Max tries to overcome his fear of children and find a sense of bravery as the family go to the farm for a getaway. The second being with, Max's friend Gidget as she tries everything her in will to protect Max's favorite toy until it is lost by a older woman's apartment full of cats. The last story being with everyone's favorite rabbit Snowball, as he discovers his new identity as as superhero known as Captain Snowball and goes on a mission to rescue a Tiger from a evil circus owner. The first film introduces a great concept of what are pets like when they are not home, however with that being I said I found the first one a bit predictable. Maybe due to the sequel's outstanding marketing and lack of spoilers in the trailers, the sequel, in a rare form blew away the first film. The character development set up from the first film was a great setup, but it felt too much as if it was animal "Toy Story". This film branched away from the idea of all the animals hating one another to helping each other out and motivating one another to be the best pet they can be. Not only was the film motivating in a way, it was heartwarming to see everyone be themselves and provided a great message to find true courage within ourselves. Lastly, the film itself was hilarious from start to finish, with jokes ranging from simple kids to lines that went over people's head at first glance, especially with Harrison Ford's new character and all the lines he provided throughout the film. Overall, The Secret Life of Pets 2 is one of the surprise hits of the summer and definitely a fun film for all to enjoy and certainly not to miss.
