Men in Black: International Review- Great Cast Neuralyzed by Basic Plot

It has been almost 6 years since we saw the last Men in Black film starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. The Men in Black Trilogy is one of the most original trilogies and stories to ever come across the big screen, as well the Sci-Fi world. Although we were unable to receive the MIB and Jump Street spinoff promised by Sony, the excitement of heading back to the world of aliens was through the roof. However even compared to the last film, MIB: International failed to meet up to expectations. In International we see fresh new faces to the franchise with the newly Agent M, played by Tessa Thompson, a woman who her whole life since childhood has enjoyed the discovery of aliens when one sneaked into her room and hid it from the 90s MIB agents, later neuralyzing her parents forgetting about the alien, but not Agent M. When recruited she must go to London on a mission to stop the rise of the evil alien group known as "The Hive" who was thought to have been defeated by the London head of MIB played by Liam Neeson, and Agent H played the god of thunder himself Chris Hemsworth. The chemistry among the actors and actresses was fun, and the dialogue scenes between Hemsworth and Thompson were quite enjoyable. It was also quite fun to see familiar faces from around the MIB universe such as Frank the Dog, the Worm Guys, and even Emma Thompson reprising her role as Agent O. Comedian Kumail Nanjiani enters the universe as Pawny, a tiny alien chess piece that befriends H and M, and provides an amusing and fresh character to the universe. The film's potential was so high, and yet in most ways it felt disappointed about the outcomes of how the film progresses. Even with established director F. Gary Gray, whose directed fantastic films such as The Italian Job, The Fate of the Furious, and Straight Outta Compton, could not find a way to make the plot more enjoyable. The film had way too many predictable moments and flat jokes, that did not make the film necessarily unpleasant, however more disappointing. Some of the moments throughout the film just made no sense. One scene takes us to the desert after chase scene, however I felt there was no establishment onto what the two were searching for or simply who were we suppose to trust at this point in the film. At some points too, I found myself asking where is this all leading towards, until it finally found it's way into the third act of the film, which was probably one of the highlights of the film. The big reveal was quite fascinating, and I had wish the film had established it early on to see what it could be like if the audience had known beforehand. Overall, MIB: International failed to live up to the expectations from the original films, however the great cast and their dialogues saved me from walking out out of the film.
