DC Fandome: Hall Of Heroes Recap/Review

Updated: Aug 23, 2020

Today was the first day of what was supposed to be an all day event known as DC Fandome that was going to be divided by kids shows, regular television shows, films, comics, video games, and anything new and exciting in the DC world. After being split into two days, today was known as the "Hall of Heroes" which showcased mostly new films, television series updates, and a few video games. What stood out most for today was the exciting film announcements, trailers, and new behind the scene footage of upcoming films. Throughout this article I will recap the film news for all who have missed it and give my thoughts on the latest news. 1 pm came, the Fandome was open, and immediately we the event begun.

We start with the future 2020 film, Wonder Woman 1984:

Not much new information was initially revealed right away when Gal Gadot popped up on the screen, alongside her fellow cast mates and director Patty Jenkins. However, right away they premiered the new trailer for their fall film. (Link for the trailer below)

I simply loved this new trailer. It also quite reminded me that Wonder Woman is coming out this year which is exciting to say the least. It will be great to see Steve Trevor return to the franchise and the introduction of Pedro Pascal into the film. The biggest takeaway was the first look at Kristen Wiig's Cheetah.

I personally am a fan of the look, it could have been so much worse on paper. The first leak looked almost like she was an extra from the failed Cats musical. She definitely looks way more tough and powerful. My fear is the third act will be a mess just as the first film with its final battle. However, I have faith DC has improved on it's endings on their films. Overall, very excited and looking forward to see Wonder Woman 1984.

The Upcoming Flash Film:

Not much was simply revealed from The Flash Panel today other than Ezra Miller and Director Andy Muschietti talking about the script and production of the film. With a release date of June 3, 2022, filming had not begun yet. However today we received the confirmed news that original Batman actor, Michael Keaton, will be reprising his role as well as DCEU actor Ben Affleck also playing the Batman. While the script hints more towards a Flashpoint film, which involves the multiverse of DC, we must wait to see more news. But for now we were given new beautiful concept art with the new awesome Flash suit, fighting alongside Keaton's Batman.

The Suicide Squad:

Boy ohh boy was I pumped to watch this panel. I have been really looking forward to this film since it's James Gunn announcement, and what better way than to start the panel was a introduction from the Guardians of the Galaxy director himself. From then on out the panel was simply amazing. We were quickly introduced to the cast and most importantly finding out who they were playing, such as Idris Elba playing Bloodsport.

All the casting choices to Margot Robbie to John Cena to even Pete Davidson are simply perfect. I know already I cannot be attached to these characters because you never know what to expect from a big film such as this. I imagine the chemistry will be stellar and the amount of fun on set must have been unreal.

After a fun quiz among the cast, Gunn rolled out a behind the scenes look at the making of the film, and it was simply stunning. This is how the Suicide Squad was meant to be shown on screen: dangerous, exciting, colorful, daring, and overall brave.

In one of my favorite reveals of the day, I was so excited for the film and cannot wait to experience it on the big screen.

Justice League Snyder Cut:

This right here was such a long time coming...The Snyder Cut. Was it a myth? Was it real? Will it ever see the light of day? Well three years later we finally have the proof and the time of when the Snyder Cut will be released to the fans.

I am not going to lie to you all, I was very disappointed in this overall panel.

First we have the trailer for the Snyder Cut:

While it does look like a better version of the current Justice League film we have already seen, despite from a few cool looking deleted scenes and the Superman Black Suit, this trailer was something. First the music, I know Zach Snyder definitely made this trailer because it has the same exact music from his Watchmen film. Whatever, I can adapt to that. Second, maybe it is just because the CGI is not finished yet but the characters of Darkseid and DeSaad look simply terrible. DeSaad looks like an exact copy of IROK from the Ready Player One film.

Tell me...Which one is which??

And Lastly, just because Snyder claims it will be darker, this trailer certainly did not prove it. At some points it was just the other film with different colors and calling it a different cut. But hey, I want to be wrong and tell you all next year this was amazing and I am hoping I get to do so.

Black Adam:

Next, we have the official look at Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam and the Justice Society of America.

Overall, this film has the potential to be stunning and one of the best DCEU films. If it follows the road as Shazam mixed the great charisma of The Rock, then we are looking at such a great film.

I wish we got to see more casting and production stills but hey that is what the future is for and I am to see what Mr. Johnson brings to the world of Black Adam!

Aquaman 2:

Not much was overall shown for the future of Aquaman, except some words about the future of Aquaman 2 from director James Wan. Wan stated to the fans how he is excited to add more horror possibly to the next film and is excited to make something that is both fresh and relevant. Cross your fingers we get some more news soon.

Shazam 2:

The cast of the first film popped into to talk about the sequel to one of the best DCEU films to date next to Birds of Prey. While we got to see the cast returning including Zachary Levi and director David F. Sandberg, the best news came from the official title reveal of SHAZAM: FURY OF THE GODS. Much to look forward to the future of Shazam.

and last but not least...we received the biggest reveal of the day...The Batman:

This panel was overall one word: awesome! We got to see both our new Batman actor, Robert Pattinson and director Matt Reeves talk about the production and influences of the new film. But why talk about it and allow you to see it for yourself with this new amazing teaser trailer:

Now this trailer was complete with only 25% of the film even shot! Wow! I am sold! Batman looks stellar, I love the year 2 approach to the character who is dealing with the idea of simply becoming the Bat, the beginning of our favorite villains Penguin, the Riddler, and Catwoman, and overall just the look and feel to the film. It is edgy meets mystery meets psychological thriller, it is without a doubt something to be eager about for the future.
