Bad Boys For Life Review- Whatcha Gonna Do? The Bad Boys Are Back & Better Than Ever!

Back in 1995, Michael Bay took the theme song to "Cops", added Will Smith and Martin Lawrence two actors who at the time were not as big as they were now, and generated one of the most bad-ass action films of all time. Eight years later, Bay up the action and the comedy to generate Bad Boys II which contains some of the coolest action sequences in movie history, making it one of the top notch action comedy sequels and overall films. Now here we are, 17 years later from Bad Boys II, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence at the peak of their acting ability to reunite once again as everyone's favorite Miami PD detectives Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett in their third outing "Bad Boys For Life". The film jumps right back into the action with an opening car chase to remind us all of the fun of these films set to Meek Mill's Uptown II to help us get ready for the party we are about to watch. As father time creeps up on Mike and Marcus, Marcus is ready for his second chapter of life with retirement, while Mike is not ready to slow down yet and wants to remain the Bad Boy he was taught to be. Meanwhile, a new drug-lord that is a mother & son duo show up in Miami and begin to take over the city, and begin killing cops and judges to make their presence known in the city, meanwhile beginning their revenge mission that have hurt their family in the past. The mother/son duo even have a connection our own Mike Lowrey who must personally bring a stop to them. When finally convincing Marcus to leave retirement, our favorite duo teams with the new AMMO division to save their city and put a stop to two drug-lords the only way they know how. This addition to the franchise may not only be the best, however it manages to be one of the most surprising and good films of 2020. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence bring their all in their performances which allows the audience to feel for the characters, especially in moments of giving up when seeing our favorite cops quit so easily then picking up themselves to see it through till the end of the mission. While sadly Bay does not return to direct the third installment, newcomer directors Adil & Bilall create a more stable and simple story line that does not tame itself in terms of action like the previous films, but opens up to bring the best of what everyone has to offer and makes it top grade action film with nothing but original action sequences and fresh jokes. The cast itself, besides Smith & Lawrence, all seem to be having a ball on set including the return of familiar faces such as Joe Pantoliano who reprises his role as Captain Howard and Theresa Randle Marcus's wife, and the addition of Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig, and Paola Nunez playing members of the AMMO division. I expected this movie to be one of those fun action sequels that defy the laws of physics and creates unbelievable action sequences that are just over the top like the latest Fast and Furious films, not that their is nothing wrong that. The fight scenes and actions sequences were way more thought out and practical, not that they are possible, but way more possible than Vin Diesel throwing a car off the side of a cliff and swinging like Spider-Man. Overall, the Bad Boys are back! Whatcha gonna do when they come for you? Nothing just enjoy the ride they bring you to this long awaited sequel that lived up to the hype from its predecessors.
